The former assistant to a film artist has been charged by the NIA for allegedly being involved in drug sales and hawala money transfers intended to resurrect the LTTE in India.
In the coastal district of Villincham, Kerala, in the year 2021, 300 kilos of heroin, five AK-47 rifles, and a thousand bullets manufactured in Pakistan were found by coast guards on patrol.
Following an initial inquiry, six Sri Lankans were taken into custody in connection with the narcotics smuggling case. Later on, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) was given the case.
According to the NIA Kochi officers' research, guns and drugs were being imported to resurrect the LTTE movement. For this reason, the NIA detained 13 people, including Tamils from Sri Lanka, and on June 15 of last year, they submitted a charge sheet in the special court.
It said that 'all of them were involved in narcotics smuggling over the Indian Ocean and had planned terrorist acts in various districts of Tamil Nadu'. The former assistant of a Tamil film star, Adhilingam, was subsequently detained in this case as part of an inquiry carried out by NIA officers, making him the fourteenth person to be arrested.
In this instance, the Poondamalli NIA special court has received a charge sheet that the authorities submitted against Adilingam. According to a press release the NIA issued:
Adilingam is the fourteenth individual named on the chargesheet, despite the fact that 16 people have been implicated in this case. It appears that he was involved in the illicit trade in firearms and drugs. Additionally, Adilingam has served as a middleman for the conversion of proceeds from the sale of drugs via the hawala system.
It is alleged that the funds were donated to support the LTTE movement. According to the charge sheet, Gunasekaran, a Sri Lankan, has been surreptitiously collaborating with drug traffickers and well-known LTTE leaders, including his son Dileepan, while employed in production management in the Tamil film business.
