The drag on the formation of a new government in Pakistan

The process of forming a new government in Pakistan is taking a long time because no party won a majority in the most recent elections. Approximately 100 seats have been won by independent candidates supported by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the party of former prime minister Imran Khan, who is currently serving a jail sentence for corruption. Polling results have been announced for 255 constituencies. The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), led by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, secured 73 seats, while the Pakistan People's Party (PPP), led by former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, secured 54 seats. The PTI party has declared that they have won the polls in this particular situation. The matter lingers because the PML-N party has also declared that it will establish a new government. Asim Munir, the Chief of Army Staff, meanwhile, urged that the parties set aside their disagreements and come together to establish a government of national unity. After winning the majority of seats in the 2018 general elections, Imran Khan, the former prime minister, was imprisoned on charges of corruption and secrecy violations. The Election Commission has disabled his party's cricket bat symbol. As a result, each party's candidates ran on their own. But it was anticipated that PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif would reclaim power and win more seats in this election given the military's backing. The establishment of the new administration is reportedly taking longer than expected because the pro-Imran party candidates are alleged to have gained more seats in defiance of the demands of the military.
