Two Sri Lankans who were arrested in China while trying to escape by hiding in a container in Malaysia have been deported a year later.
It is reported that they were sent to Katunayake Airport on the morning of 24.02.2024.
The 2 suspects tried to escape to Malaysia by hiding in a container on a ship docked at Colombo port on January 30 last year.
But when the said ship arrived in Malaysia, Malaysia refused to accept the two suspects hiding in the container, so the authorities went to several countries to pick up the suspects and finally went to China.
After this, the Chinese authorities arrested both of them.
In this situation, after taking steps to deport both suspects from the country, they were sent to Katunayake Airport by Sri Lankan Airlines flight from Shanghai, China on 24.02.2024 at 5 am.
After arriving at the Katunayake Airport, a team of officers from the Katunayake Airport Criminal Investigation Department, Trade and Human Trafficking Investigation Division arrested them and took them to their main office in the Kirulapanai area of Colombo.
It is noteworthy that two persons aged 26 and 39 tried to escape in this way.
