19.03.2024 Tamil MPs in Sri Lanka's Parliament protest!

Tamil MPs will demonstrate in Parliament on March 19, 2024, against the arrest of eight young Tamil individuals who were preventing Tamil people from exercising their right to worship at the Vedukunarimalai Adhisivan temple.
Eight officials of the temple administration and Shivratri worshippers at Vedukunarimalai Adishivan temple have been taken into custody by the Nedungeni police. Over them has flown the Archeology Act. The legal action is thought to have been taken to keep them from being released on bond.

The arrestees' trial is scheduled for March 19, 2024, in the Vavuniya court.

19.03.2024 The Tamil MPs had made the decision to ask President Ranil Wickremesinghe to change the indictment against them and take action to grant them bail. This states that CV Wigneswaran requested a time slot be reserved for the meeting with the President.

Ranil did not, however, make time to meet with Tamil MPs right away. On Wednesday 20.03.2024, the President has set a meeting time of 11 a.m.

Tamil MPs are not thrilled about Ranil Wickramasinghe's decision.

Tamil MPs have chosen to demonstrate within the Parliament this morning against this backdrop. It is anticipated that the majority of the Tamil-speaking lawmakers will be present.
