Thiruvodu demonstration against India's federal government - statement from Tamil Nadu fishermen.

The fishermen of Rameswaram resolved in an emergency meeting to protest against the central government for its inability to stop the Sri Lankan Navy's serial arrests on March 26, 2024.
On Saturday, March 16, 2024, the Sri Lankan Navy detained two boats and twenty-one fishermen from the fishing harbor in Rameswaram for fishing illegally across the border. Jailed.

Following this, on March 19, 2024, at Rameswaram Fishing Port, an emergency consultation meeting was organized by fishermen and members of the Rameswaram Power Boat Fishermen Association.

The committee decided that the 21 fishermen who had been detained by the Sri Lankan Navy for smuggling fish across the border needed to be freed on a boat right away. The fishermen have made the decision to demonstrate against the federal government for its inaction in stopping the ongoing apprehensions by the Sri Lankan Navy.

The fishermen in Sri Lanka have requested that the two governments hold discussions right now without placing the fishermen under custody in Sri Lankan jails since there is still one month until the fishing ban is announced.
